THE ONE VOWEL SOUND



If there is only one vowel letter in a short word, It is pronounced  with its relative vowel sond.

/æ/               /ɜ/               /ɪ/             /a/               /ʌ/ 
Has              bed              fill            tom              up
Cat             send             his            shop            run
Man           men             dig           clock            lunch



Alphabet vowel sounds


 THE TWO VOWEL RULE

If there are two vowel letter in a one syllable word:
* The first vowel is pronounced  with its alphabet vowel sound .
* The second vowel is silent.

     /ei/               /i/                     /ai/               /ow/                   /iu/
Change         mean               dried            chose                   rude
 save              teach                 fine               note                   fumes
grave             seat                    pie                pose                   fumes


Diphthongs:


As in spanish, in english we have diphthongs too, on the following table you can see an example of  relative and  alphabet  vowel sounds and some diphthongs.
