WORD STRESS

The stress pattern is based on the number of  syllables in each word. here you have some rules about it:


1-Stress rule for two syllables words:
            Except for verbs, two syllables words are usually stressed on the first syllable.

       Cookies 
       Pizza
       dinner

      2-For words that end in ( tion-sion or cian) the stressed syllable comes before of these endings.

       reduction
       musician
       permission

      3-For words that end in ( IC-ICAL) the stressed syllable comes before ic or   ical.
       chemical
       surgical
       Political
   
     4-When two syllable words can be used as a noun or a verb, the verb form is usually stressed on the second syllable.

       Verb              Noun

     progress        progress


     Word Stress exercises:

      Now, you can practice, we have put here  an exercise which combines all the rules mentioned before.

      You have to repeat  each word and selecting  where you consider is the  stress word or stressed syllable. Do not forget the rules!
